Who's at the door?

You have the night desk at the Calder. After midnight the building is residents only, and the front door has an old pane of reeded glass. Someone knocks. You check the face against the residents' ledger, then hold Open or Keep locked.

Some of them are strangers. Some of them aren't people. They give themselves away by breaking the optics of the glass and the light.

How it plays

  • Come closer to get a better look. People don't like waiting in the cold.
  • Lean to see the slices from another angle: drag across the glass, move the mouse, use the arrow keys, or tilt your phone.
  • The porch lamp throws stripes across whoever is outside. Watch how they fall.
  • The ledger lists every resident with their flat and height, and marks everyone you've let in tonight.

Seven nights. Each one teaches one rule of the glass, in a memo from the manager and in the notes the last porter left behind. A wrong call costs a lamp; lose all three and the night starts over. Residents you let down have a way of coming back.

Also

  • Two endings.
  • Daily door: the same ten visitors for everyone each day, with a result to share. Unlocks after night 7.
  • Endless: one long night that ends when you lose three lamps. Unlocks after night 7.
  • Mirror: put your camera or a photo behind the glass and take a snapshot.

Every face, the glass, the lamp and every sound are generated live from one small file. It plays in the browser on desktop and on phones.
