Thirty lights in the dark. None of them is the way out.

A tunnel that only goes down. A torch in your left hand, a knife in your right, and your own breathing getting faster in your ears. Somewhere ahead there is always a light: a hole to the surface, a miner's lamp, a glow on the water. Every time you reach it, it is a lie.

Things live down here. Pale crawlers that walk the walls and drop from the ceiling. Mice that come in floods. Half-dead things that drag themselves after you. Black spiders that spit from the walls. Blind worms, shadows that steel passes through, mud that stands up and walks. And every fifth light, something bigger waits in the dark: a rotten miner, a black bear, a giant cobra, a crocodile, a headless thing from somewhere else... and at the bottom of the world, a pair of red eyes.

Features

  • 30 levels of one endless, winding tunnel into the earth, with a boss every 5 levels and the last one at level 30
  • Play as the Trapped Female or the Trapped Male, in first person or from behind them (press V)
  • Torch and knife combat: knife what bleeds, overdrive the torch to burn what doesn't; blind the bosses, then cut
  • New in 1.2: the veined stones hold tools. Each hand turns through what you carry: a fire torch, flares, a blaze cell for the torch; a mining axe, bear spray, dynamite. Wear a dead chevalier's armour and a miner's helmet
  • New in 1.3: silence in the tunnel — only the cave, your own breath and what hunts you, with a few seconds of the "False Light" song at each false light. Tilt-to-look and a look-wheel on phones, an optional target lock, and a help page that fills in only as you meet things
  • Jump scares, things at the edge of your sight, and figures standing in the beam when the torch flickers back
  • A humid, living cave: dripping water and acid, mist, dust in the beam, skulls and broken lanterns, glowing fungus you can eat
  • The "False Light" soundtrack on the title and the credits; down in the dark, you hear it only when a light lies to you
  • Easy, Normal and Hard; pixel 3D that runs fast on almost anything: keyboard and mouse, touch, or gamepad

What the stones hold

  • Blaze cell (left hand): 30 seconds of white light that burns everything in the beam
  • Fire torch (left hand): a wide warm light that needs no battery; sweep the flames at what comes close
  • Flares (left hand): throw one, and for 25 seconds animals and shadows will not cross its light
  • Mining axe (right hand): slower, double damage, breaks the drowned's mud
  • Bear spray (right hand): stops every animal, the bear, the cobra and the crocodile included
  • Dynamite (right hand): throw it and get back
  • Chevalier armour and a miner's helmet: worn at once; the armour takes almost half of every blow, the helmet's lamp never dies and acid runs off it

Not every stone is kind. Some still hold worms, mice, or shadows that flee into the dark and come back for you.
